Bucket ’22 Winner of Egg Contest To Become New Owner of WesWings

As many probably figured out, our recent Egg Hunt had several eggs containing “Golden Tickets” We invited all of the ticket holders to a tour of WesWings and we are happy to announce that pre-frosh Charles Bucket ’22 was the winner. Not just of the cookie dough, but the whole restaurant.

We chose Charlie despite his breaking the rules of the contract signed by him.

“the undersigned, shall forfeit all rights, privileges, and licenses herein and herein contained, et cetera, et cetera… Fax mentis incendium gloria cultum, et cetera, et cetera… Memo bis punitor delicatum!”

During the tour, he and his grandpa Joe stole some Dr Pepper by drinking directly from the soda fountain which now has to be washed and sterilized. But instead of getting nothing and saying good day to them, after Bucket ’22 returned his everlasting cookie dough we knew he was the one.

We want to also congratulate the other golden ticket winners who took the tour of Swings but didn’t make it to the end, Salt ’18, (was a bad egg), Argus food editor Beauregarde ’19, film student Teavee ’19 and that August kid. Don’t worry they’ll all be back to their normal old terrible selves but maybe they’ll be a little bit wiser for the wear.

Bucket ’22 will be living in 156 High St next year along with his mother and all four grandparents (we don’t know what happened to the father). However due to Res Life rules, all four grandparents will have to share a twin XL bed.

New WesWings Location Planned for McGill University

mcgillWe are excited to announce that we are in discussions to open a  location on the lovely Canadian campus of McGill University.  In recent months we’ve heard a lot of students and staff express interest in uh well moving to Canada.  In response, we looked for a campus, north of the border that closely resembled Wesleyan.  They have a red bird for a mascot, so it seemed to fit.  At this point nothing is finalized.  We will make our decision in November when, if we choose to move forward, we will sign a four-year term er rather contract beginning next January.  We would then have an option for four more years.  All of our staff and customers who want to relocate are welcome to join us.

A few changes for the new location:  The Canadian bacon on our Country Club Chicken sandwich and the Eggs Benny will just be called bacon.  Also the breakfast pail will have Poutine.

Finally, don’t forget to register and please vote!

All Pails, All The Time

pailIf you have ever stopped in for one of our weekend brunches, you’ve probably had a pail.  They’ve become quite popular as a recent snap chat photo clearly shows.  Scrambled, over easy, poached, bacon, avocado, hollandaise the choices are endless.

We have had requests to offer the pail on different days as well as dinner pails like the mashed potato pail or the notorious Pail-A-Palooza.

After careful thought and consideration, we have decided to serve all of our menu items in a pail.  Cheeseburger? In a pail.  Buffalo wings? In a pail. Salads in pails.  Eggplant Parmigiana in pails. Soup in pails.  Chicken Tender Wraps in pails.  You get the idea.

For those of you who either are not fans of the breakfast pail or prefer your Penne Vodka on a plate, you’ll adjust.

While some would rather not have their entire meal in one container the benefits are many.

  • No longer do we have to worry if your meal “was supposed to be to-go”
  • Neatness and presentation? Who cares, it’s in a pail!
  • Finally, to keep every portion consistent in size, we will be serving our cookie dough in the pail as well.  While we don’t recommend eating 26 oz of cookie dough, you’re all big boys and girls and can make that choice if you want.

We look forward to seeing photos of your pail food on Twitter and SnapChat or Facebook if anyone still uses it.

Middletown P&Z Approves In-Ground Pool 2nd Phase Outdoor Improvements

IMG_0548

UPDATE:  Most people we talked to said they prefer to swim in outdoor pools during the summer.  We checked and apparently we’re not open in the summer.  Since there doesn’t seem to be as much interest in an outdoor skating rink, we’ve decided NOT to put in a pool.  (I’ll save my “HOFF” costume for another time.)

Middletown planning and zoning approved the next phase for WesWings outside improvements.  As many of you know, last summer’s patio installation was the first phase of our overall outside renovation.  Last night’s meeting was one of the final hurdles we had to overcome to begin the installation of the in-ground pool.  Unfortunately, plans for the outdoor stage area were rejected due to concerns over loud noise disturbing area residents.  Along with additional landscaping, we will finally have the outdoor pool that Wesleyan has been lacking.

Of course none of this would have been possible without our generous contributors to our Kickstarter campaign.

While most people chose the $25 level – breakfast pail served while floating on a tube, seven people did buy the $500 level – name plated chaise lounge chair (reservation not incl.)  There were no takers for the $2,500 level where you could have a bucket of wings (or seitan) served poolside by Ed or Karen in their Baywatch lifeguard gear.

So be sure to join us poolside next fall for our grand opening!

Deal’s Off -You’re Stuck with Us

TheBreakUp1

The deal to sell WesWings has fallen through.  Apparently, the vegan buyers feel they can feed more Wesleyan students in Brooklyn.  Plus it turns out that it costs a lot more than we thought to retire early even with the life expectancy for someone who’s been eating at WesWings for over 20 years.

We do appreciate all the well wishes we received today.  (really? soybean cookie dough didn’t give it away)  We can now look forward to many years in the basement of 156 High St., frying wings and livin’ the dream.

Why We’re Selling WesWings

By now most have you have heard the rumor that WesWings was being sold.  It’s hard to keep a secret in the age of Facebook, twitter and Karen.  It has not been an easy decision for us.  For over 20 years, we have enjoyed meeting the thousands of students and frying their food.  We both realized that it was time to move on.  Working nights can be tiring and the winter break is too long.

The new owners have promised to keep the name and the decor, but as vegans, plan to make several changes to the menu.  They tell us that their locally sourced soybean cookie dough is quite good.  (so at least you can still get your cookie dough fix)

As for us, fortunately the money we’ve sold WesWings for combined with what we’ve charged for mozzarella sticks over the years, will allow us to retire quite comfortably.

We wish everyone the best.
