As the school year comes to a close, so does Broad Street Books, Wesleyan’s bookstore for the past fourteen years. In 2003 we joined together with Wesleyan and Follett Higher Ed to create Wesleyan’s bookstore and cafe. The former employees of Atticus Books became the first staff of Broad St Books and Red & Black Cafe. For fourteen years we worked side by side. While the people who worked for the bookstore would change, the Red & Black Cafe came to know so many of their staff, through the busiest of times and the darkest of days.
Recently we have observed the professionalism and dedication of their staff as they worked to liquidate the stock and bring the store to a close. We wish them well in their future endeavors and always leave open the possibility to work together in the future.
As for what becomes of the Red & Black Cafe, we’re not going anywhere. Wesleyan is our home and we will continue to serve students and the entire Wesleyan community. Several ideas are being discussed as to what will occupy the space left by the bookstore. We have our fingers crossed and will make any announcements when appropriate.
Enjoy your summer,
Karen & Ed

UPDATE 12/1/16
We are excited to announce that we are in discussions to open a location on the lovely Canadian campus of McGill University. In recent months we’ve heard a lot of students and staff express interest in uh well moving to Canada. In response, we looked for a campus, north of the border that closely resembled Wesleyan. They have a red bird for a mascot, so it seemed to fit. At this point nothing is finalized. We will make our decision in November when, if we choose to move forward, we will sign a four-year term er rather contract beginning next January. We would then have an option for four more years. All of our staff and customers who want to relocate are welcome to join us.
This Saturday February 6th, marks our 25th anniversary.
